The day after the election, or the day the republicans lost
Nov 7, 2012
Ok so today I walk into school and the first thing I hear is: “Obama is gay” “Obama is going to kill our community.” Just kinda went down hill from there, except for maybe the first five minutes in the eighth grade hallway. My friend Jake comes up to me and gives me a high five (on election day he didn’t have and Obama shirt so he printed out a picture of Obama and taped it on his shirt) Then another democrat friend says hey and smiles real big. Other than that everybody else was just pissed. Here in Alabama there are two things people really feel passionate about, football and Jesus. To some people Nick Saban is Jesus, but that’s beside the point. Girls at my school on Tuesday were saying that their mothers were praying for Romney to win. I asked them “But if Obama wins does that mean God doesn’t love Romney?” they responded saying that if Obama wins it was just life and out of God’s hands. Maybe God didn’t want Romney to win, or maybe he isn’t real at all (I mean God not Romney). I thought that if Romney would win then God must REALLY hate us so in a way I think “God” helped us. Even if the people praying don’t know it yet.
Football season here almost never stops. Now I “go for” Auburn, and some people “go for” Alabama. In Alabama you have to decide who you “go for” and you only have two options: Auburn or Alabama. When there is an election you practically have two options: Republican, or Democrat, but if you don’t say what the person asking wants to hear then well, you’re wrong. See in an average Alabama teen’s mind everything is like football, you “go for” a certain team. You don’t necessarily choose the team you want, you choose the team your family goes for. Same with politics, when you turn eighteen you don’t vote for you who think is better you vote probably republican because that’s who your family votes for. It’s hard not to vote Repbulican around here. On the way to school I counted 16 Romney signs. And If your team loses then all of the good christian values and W.W.J.D. thoughts go out the window, and you smack talk about the winning team. The only way to educate people in Alabama on politics is somehow finding a way to combine it with football.
